To recognise the past and promote future scientific achievements of women, the United Nations declared 11 February to be the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

University Day 2017
The Nicolaus Copernicus University will be celebrating its University Day on 19 February 2017 – the 554. birth anniversary of its patron, Nicolaus Copernicus (born 19 February 1473). As each year, a special ceremony will be held as a tribute to the man who “stopped the Sun and moved the Earth”.

More scholarships for publications
Dr hab. Marek Koziński, dr Magdalena Krintus, prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica and prof. dr hab. Grażyna Odrowąż-Sypniewska received scholarships for their high-impact publication: "High-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays: from improved analytical performance to enhanced risk stratification" in Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Erasmus+ orientation week
178 students from all sides of the world will soon begin their studies in Bydgoszcz within the Erasmus+ Student Exchange Program. During the orientation week organised jointly by four Bydgoszcz universities, the foreign students will have the opportunity to get a grasp of the city, its history and sights, as well as to familiarise themselves with Polish language and customs.

Tomasz Grzybowski received scholarships for their high-impact publication: "Intra- and inter-population analysis of haplotype diversity in Yfiler Plus system using a wide set of representative data from Polish population" in Forensic Science International - Genetics.

Competition for best original paper
The Polish Archives of Internal Medicine, a clinical journal with one of the highest impact factors in Poland (2.054), is holding a competition for best student paper devoted to internal medicine. All students of medicine are invited to participate. Paper submission deadline is 30 April 2017.

Upgrade at University Hospital No. 2
A new project has been launched at the Jan Biziel University Hospital No. 2 in Bydgoszcz. The institution is planning to extend and redevelop the Emergency Department, largely by the creation of modern initial intensive care stations. The nearly PLN 4.5 million project is co-financed from the EU’s European Regional Development Fund.

By the decision of the University’s authorities, 4 April 2017 (Tuesday) will be the Rector’s day – a day with no classes – for all the students of full-time and part-time programmes, due to the Open Doors event held in Collegium Medicum on that day.

On 4 April 2017, a group of guests from Ireland visited our university. The meeting provided us with an excellent opportunity to promote English-taught programmes offered by NCU Collegium Medicum in the Irish media and among Irish secondary school students.

Our academics in the panel of experts
Prof. Jan Styczyński, Prof. Grzegorz Grześk, prof. Olga Haus and dr Aleksander Deptuła from NCU Collegium Medicum have been appointed to the Panel of Experts of the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education. The main objective of the team is to develop and update medical specialisation and training programmes.
